Behind every fierce competitor is a quiet anchor. For Kimi Räikkönen, the famously reserved and no-nonsense Formula 1 World Champion, that anchor has always been his family. And no one knows this better than his wife, Minttu Räikkönen, who recently opened up in a rare interview about the man behind the helmet—and the priority he’s always placed on home over headlines.
“People often see Kimi as this cold, robotic racer,” Minttu shared, “but what they don’t see is the warmth and devotion he has for his family. For Kimi, it’s not racing or fame. It’s us. Always.”
Throughout his F1 career—and now in his ventures across NASCAR, motocross, and beyond—Kimi Räikkönen built a reputation as “The Iceman.” But Minttu offers a very different perspective: a man who dismantles his public armor the moment he walks through the front door.
The couple, who married in 2016 and are parents to Robin and Rianna, lead a life rooted in simplicity, privacy, and presence. According to Minttu, family holidays, shared breakfasts, and school pickups are just as—if not more—important to Kimi than any podium finish.
“He’ll choose a weekend with the kids in the Finnish countryside over a red carpet event any day,” she said.
Since retiring from Formula 1 in 2021, Kimi has intentionally dialed down the media noise and spotlight, turning instead to fatherhood and personal projects. Whether it’s watching Robin kart race or helping Rianna learn to ride a bike, his attention is fully tuned in.
“Kimi always said, ‘I don’t need a hundred friends or the whole world’s attention. I just need to be where I’m needed.’ And that’s with us.”
Though he remains active in motorsport in various roles, including as a mentor and behind-the-scenes figure in IceOne Racing, Minttu insists Kimi is at his most passionate when simply being “Dad.”
Minttu, a former fitness model and lifestyle influencer, says their strong bond comes from a shared love for honesty, loyalty, and peace.
“We’re not a glamorous couple, and we don’t try to be. We’re happy just being together—watching the kids grow, enjoying a quiet evening. Kimi doesn’t talk much, but he shows love in his actions. And that’s everything to me.”
✨ Beyond the Track
While fans still hope to see glimpses of Kimi at F1 paddocks or special events, Minttu hints that the future might hold more family-centered adventures—including possibly opening a karting school with Robin, or expanding their philanthropic projects in Finland.
“He’s had his time under the spotlight. Now, he’s focused on helping others shine. Especially our kids.”
In a world of roaring engines and relentless competition, Kimi Räikkönen has found something far more powerful—love, legacy, and peace at home. And as Minttu beautifully puts it:
“The world might remember him as The Iceman. But to us, he’s just Kimi—the man who puts his family above everything else.”
