Tyronn Lue Sends Clear Message on Harden, Leonard After Clippers’ Playoff Exit
Following the Los Angeles Clippers’ 120–101 loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the first-round playoff series, head coach Tyronn Lue delivered a pointed but hopeful message about the future of his star duo, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard.
The Clippers entered the 2024-25 season with championship aspirations but were derailed by injuries and inconsistency. Leonard missed 45 games due to lingering health issues, forcing Harden to carry much of the offensive burden. Despite the early playoff exit, Lue expressed appreciation for the efforts of both players and remained optimistic about the team’s potential if both stars can stay healthy.
“James had to carry a huge load with Kawhi missing so many games,” Lue said postgame. “He did a great job keeping us in the fight. Having both of them healthy for a full season could be tremendous.”
Leonard led the team in Game 7 with 22 points, while Harden added 7 points and 13 assists. Still, the Clippers struggled to contain Denver’s firepower, leading to their third straight first-round playoff elimination.
Lue emphasized that the key to future success lies in availability. “We’ve never had a full season with everyone healthy. That’s what makes it hard to build chemistry and consistency,” he said.
Looking ahead, Lue’s comments suggest the Clippers may aim to keep the Harden-Leonard pairing intact, banking on improved health and cohesion. With both players potentially entering contract negotiations, their future in Los Angeles remains a major storyline.
