Buckeyes’ Transfer Portal Moves: Key Additions and Remaining Gaps
As the 2025 college football season approaches, Ohio State has been active in the transfer portal, securing five new players to bolster their roster. These additions aim to address critical areas, yet some positions still require attention.
Recent Additions:
Phillip Daniels (OL): Transferring from Minnesota, Daniels, an Ohio native, brings Big Ten experience to the offensive line. His four starts with the Golden Gophers suggest potential, though he may need further development to become a consistent starter for the Buckeyes.
CJ Donaldson (RB): Formerly of West Virginia, Donaldson adds depth to Ohio State’s backfield. His physical running style complements the existing talent, providing versatility to the rushing attack.
Logan George (DL): Coming from Idaho State, George aims to strengthen the defensive line rotation. His performance at the FCS level indicates potential, though transitioning to Big Ten competition will be a significant step up.
Max Klare (TE): A transfer from Purdue, Klare offers additional options in the tight end position, potentially enhancing both blocking schemes and passing targets.
Ethan Onianwa (OL): Joining from Rice, Onianwa’s size and experience are assets that could contribute to the offensive line’s depth and competitiveness.
Areas Still in Need:
Despite these acquisitions, Ohio State has critical positions to fill:
Special Teams (Kicker and Punter): The departure of key specialists has left a void. Securing reliable kicker and punter transfers is essential to maintain consistency in the kicking game, which has been problematic in recent performances.
Quarterback Depth: With the transfer of Devin Brown and Air Noland, the Buckeyes may seek to add depth and experience to the quarterback room to ensure stability and competition.
Head Coach Ryan Day acknowledges the increasing reliance on the transfer portal to address roster needs, stating, “I think every year, that number is going to go up.” As the offseason progresses, Ohio State is expected to continue its pursuit of talent to fill these remaining gaps, aiming to build a well-rounded team capable of competing at the highest level in the upcoming season.
