It wasn’t Andrea Kimi Antonelli stealing all the spotlight in the Monza paddock last weekend — the real Kimi was back.
Yes, Kimi Räikkönen, the 2007 Formula 1 World Champion and one of the sport’s most beloved icons, made a surprise appearance at the Italian Grand Prix, strolling through the paddock in his trademark casual style. But this time, he wasn’t alone — his nine-year-old son, Robin Räikkönen, was right by his side, soaking in the electric atmosphere of one of F1’s most historic venues.
Dressed down and blending in as much as a racing legend can, Kimi looked relaxed as he moved through the paddock, greeting familiar faces and smiling more than usual — possibly because of the young company he was keeping.
Robin, already a junior racer himself, was visibly wide-eyed at the behind-the-scenes access and fanfare surrounding the F1 world. Whether he was snapping photos, admiring the cars, or listening intently to his dad’s low-key commentary, it was clear: this was more than just a day out — it was a father-son motorsport bonding moment.
“He’s already faster than I was at that age,” Kimi joked to one team member.
“But he talks more than me too.”
The sight of the Iceman back in the paddock immediately sparked speculation among fans and insiders alike. Is Kimi getting more involved in F1 again? Could Robin be on a path to racing greatness like his father?
While Räikkönen didn’t say much (of course), he did drop a hint about how proud he is of Robin’s interest in motorsport.
“He likes it. That’s enough for me,” Kimi told a reporter.
“No pressure. If he wants to race, he races. If not, that’s also fine.”
Still, with Robin already karting competitively and occasionally popping up at tracks with his dad, many believe a second-generation Räikkönen could one day follow in his father’s tire tracks.
Social media lit up with photos and videos of the pair. One fan wrote:
“Forget Antonelli for a second — we just got the OG Kimi at Monza with his mini-me. Life is good.”
Another joked:
“Robin Räikkönen at Monza today. You just know he’s going to break some records one day — with 10 words spoken all season.”
The Monza paddock has always been a fitting stage for Räikkönen, who enjoyed a special relationship with Ferrari fans during his years in red. His appearance this weekend was a nostalgic throwback for Tifosi — many of whom still chant his name.
And seeing him there with Robin? That was the cherry on top.
Kimi Räikkönen might be retired from the F1 grid, but his presence — and now his son’s — continues to cast a long, cool shadow over the sport. Whether Robin will follow in his footsteps remains to be seen, but for now, fans were simply delighted to see The Iceman thaw a little — smiling, laughing, and sharing a special day at the Temple of Speed with his biggest fan.
Because once a racer, always a racer. And sometimes, legends return — even if just for the weekend.
