In a thrilling Week 15 matchup between NFC East rivals, the Washington Commanders faced off against the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that had fans on the edge of their seats. The Eagles, coming off a dominant stretch, aimed to continue their playoff push, while the Commanders, despite their struggles this season, were determined to play spoilers. The game delivered plenty of drama, from late-game heroics to moments of disappointment. Let’s break down the standout performances – both good and bad – with our Studs and Duds.

Studs:

Jalen Hurts (Eagles QB):
Jalen Hurts continued to show why he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Despite a few shaky moments, Hurts was calm under pressure and led his team efficiently. His ability to extend plays with his legs and make crucial throws in tight windows was on full display. Hurts threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns, adding another 50 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground. His dual-threat capability kept the Commanders’ defense guessing all game long.

A.J. Brown (Eagles WR):
Another superstar for Philadelphia, A.J. Brown had a field day against the Commanders’ secondary. Brown caught eight passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his big-play ability and physicality. His route running was crisp, and he consistently created separation, helping Hurts move the offense down the field with ease. Brown’s ability to make catches in key moments was vital to the Eagles securing the victory.

Terry McLaurin (Commanders WR):
Despite the Commanders’ loss, Terry McLaurin was one of the few bright spots on offense. McLaurin hauled in six catches for 98 yards and a touchdown, showing why he’s one of the most reliable receivers in the league. His exceptional route-running and ability to make contested catches kept the Commanders’ offense afloat throughout the game. Even when Washington was trailing, McLaurin remained a consistent threat.

Jalen Carter (Eagles DT):
The rookie defensive tackle for the Eagles has been a force all season, and in this game, he continued to dominate. Carter recorded two sacks, five pressures, and several tackles for loss, disrupting the Commanders’ offensive line all day. His relentless motor and ability to collapse the pocket were key in limiting Washington’s passing game and forcing turnovers. Carter’s performance was a big reason why Philadelphia’s defense was able to stifle Washington’s offensive attack.

Duds:

Sam Howell (Commanders QB):
Sam Howell had a rough outing in Game Two of this matchup. Though he showed some flashes, he was ultimately too inconsistent and made critical mistakes that hurt his team. Howell threw two interceptions and failed to get the offense in sync for much of the game. While he had some good moments, his inability to read the defense and make accurate throws in crucial situations led to missed opportunities and turnovers, ultimately sealing the loss for Washington.

Washington’s Offensive Line:
The Commanders’ offensive line struggled mightily against the Eagles’ defensive front. Howell was under constant pressure, taking multiple sacks and being hurried into errant throws. This lack of protection disrupted Washington’s rhythm and allowed the Eagles to take control of the game. The Commanders’ O-line continues to be one of the weak spots on their roster, and it was evident in this matchup.

Eagles’ Secondary (in parts):
While the Eagles’ secondary had a strong overall game, they were exposed at times by Terry McLaurin. The Commanders’ top receiver was able to make some big plays against Philadelphia’s cornerbacks, especially when they allowed separation on crucial third downs. This was a rare chink in the Eagles’ defensive armor that could be exploited by future teams.

In the end, the Eagles came away with a hard-fought victory, but it wasn’t without its challenges. The Commanders showed they can compete at a high level, even if they haven’t been able to put together a full 60 minutes of football. As both teams look ahead, Philadelphia continues its march towards the playoffs, while Washington will have to regroup and address their glaring weaknesses for the final stretch of the season.
