Max’s Dream: ‘It’s Not Fun Being Famous’ – Verstappen Reveals Family Wish After First Child as F1 Rival Tips Him to Take Year Off
Max Verstappen has opened up about the personal toll of fame and his deep desire for a quieter, family-centered life following the birth of his first child with partner Kelly Piquet. The three-time Formula One world champion, known for his intense focus and dominance on the track, revealed in the Viaplay documentary 10 Years of Max Verstappen that the spotlight is not something he enjoys. “It’s not fun to be famous. I prefer to be unknown,” he said candidly.

Now a father, Verstappen’s priorities appear to be shifting. He spoke about wanting simple things—like going to the cinema or taking a peaceful walk with his family—without constantly being recognized or photographed. The Red Bull driver delayed his trip to the Miami Grand Prix to stay in Monaco with Piquet as they awaited the arrival of their baby, showing a new level of personal commitment beyond racing.
As Verstappen enters his tenth F1 season and continues to chase a fifth world title, speculation has grown that he might take a sabbatical. One of his F1 rivals has even suggested that a year-long break may be in the cards so Verstappen can focus on his new family life.

Although under contract with Red Bull until 2028, Verstappen has long stated he doesn’t plan to race into his 40s, citing the importance of enjoying life outside of motorsport. While his fans—the ever-passionate Orange Army—remain loyal, Verstappen’s latest comments show a man beginning to weigh personal happiness against professional glory.
Whether a break comes soon or not, it’s clear Max Verstappen dreams of something more than podiums—he dreams of peace, privacy, and precious time with family.
