Max Verstappen’s Red Bull Future in Doubt Amid Mercedes Interest
Max Verstappen’s long-term future with Red Bull Racing has taken a dramatic twist, with growing speculation that the three-time world champion could be eyeing a move to Formula 1 rivals Mercedes. Despite being under contract with Red Bull until 2028, Verstappen’s name has been frequently linked with the seat at Mercedes that will be vacated by Lewis Hamilton in 2025.

The rumors intensified after Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff publicly expressed his interest in signing Verstappen, calling him one of the sport’s “generational talents.” Wolff also suggested that Mercedes would only have a chance if they could prove their car was competitive enough to fight for championships.
Meanwhile, Verstappen has attempted to silence the speculation by reaffirming his commitment to Red Bull. He described the team as “a second family” and emphasized the loyalty he feels toward them. “As long as they remain loyal to me, I see no reason to leave,” he said. However, behind-the-scenes tensions—especially involving Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, and internal power struggles—have kept rumors alive.
Former F1 drivers and analysts are split on the issue. Johnny Herbert called a Mercedes move “illogical,” citing Red Bull’s current dominance. Others, like Juan Pablo Montoya, believe the new power unit regulations in 2026 could tempt Verstappen to switch if Red Bull falters.

For now, Verstappen remains focused on defending his title, but with Hamilton’s exit and the F1 driver market in flux, the Dutch driver’s future continues to be one of the most talked-about storylines in the sport.
As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on whether Verstappen stays loyal to Red Bull or makes a shock move that could reshape the Formula 1landscape.
