This honor, along with being a McDonald’s All-American, signaled the start of a standout career at the University of Kentucky. Over his four seasons with the Wildcats, Master became known for his sharpshooting and clutch performances. He averaged 10.6 points per game while shooting an impressive 84.9% from the free-throw line—one of the best percentages in the school’s storied history.

He was also selected to the NCAA All-Region Team in 1983, cementing his place as one of the top players in the country. His strong performances helped the team reach the NCAA Tournament in multiple years, further embedding him in Kentucky’s basketball lore.
Though Master’s professional career in the NBA was brief, his love for Kentucky remained unshaken. His connection to Kentucky basketball has remained a cornerstone of his life, as he’s regularly seen attending alumni events and supporting the program.
In 2013, Master was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. His passion for the sport and commitment to his roots continued when, in January 2024, he made a $1 million donation to the University of Kentucky during a reunion of the 1983-84 Wildcats team.
Master’s connection to Kentucky has always been more than just his on-court prowess; it’s about a lasting bond with the Wildcats family. As fans continue to celebrate his birthday today, they also remember the indelible impact he’s had on the program.
