Pep Guardiola claims the Premier League have refused to accept Manchester City’s request to start next season late due to their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup.
In order to give themselves more time to recover from the Club World Cup in the United States, Guardiola stated that City have requested the Premier League to reschedule their opening games of the 2025–26 season.
Guardiola worries that his players will become exhausted and more prone to injuries due to the increased workload, especially because he has already lost key Spain midfield player Rodri for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury sustained against Arsenal.
If the Premier League winners make it to the final of the 32-team Club World Cup, their season may extend until July 13. With just four weeks remaining, they may be able to fit in player vacations and preparations before the next Premier League season, which is expected to begin on August 9 or 16, begins.
