In a jaw-dropping spectacle that stunned fans and left onlookers in awe, the city of Espoo, Finland — hometown of the legendary Kimi Räikkönen — has unveiled what is now being called the most ambitious tribute to a motorsport icon: a giant, living bronze statue of the 2007 Formula One World Champion.
Standing at over 10 meters tall, the statue doesn’t just honor Kimi Räikkönen — it brings his legacy to life. The unveiling ceremony, held at Tapiola Park, drew thousands of fans, international media, and several figures from the world of Formula 1. But nothing could prepare them for what followed.
Unlike any monument seen before, the statue uses advanced robotics, voice playback technology, and kinetic bronze components to simulate movement — mimicking Kimi’s iconic thumbs-up pose and even delivering a few of his legendary one-liners like, “Leave me alone, I know what I’m doing.”
“It’s not just a statue. It’s Kimi,” declared Espoo Mayor Anni Järvinen during the launch. “This is a tribute to Finland’s greatest motorsport legend — not just for what he achieved on the track, but for the way he did it: calm, cool, and unforgettable.”
The Iceman Immortalized
The base of the statue is engraved with key milestones from Räikkönen’s career, including:
- 🏆 2007 Formula One World Champion (Ferrari)
- 🏁 21 Grand Prix Wins
- ⏱ 350+ F1 Race Starts (A Record Holder at the Time of Retirement)
- 🧊 Nicknamed ‘The Iceman’ for his stoic demeanor
- 💬 Cultural Icon for his quotable radio moments and silent charisma
A side panel plays tribute to his off-track personality — highlighting his love for rallying, motocross, and most importantly, his status as a fan favorite across generations.
Kimi’s wife, Minttu Räikkönen, attended the event with their children and described the moment as “surreal and beautiful.”
“We knew Finland adored Kimi, but this… this is something else. I think even Kimi would say, in his own way, ‘That’s cool.’”
Fans from across Europe flew in, many wearing vintage Ferrari and McLaren gear, holding banners that read “Forever The Iceman” and “Espoo’s Greatest Export.”
“It’s So Kimi”
Former teammate Sebastian Vettel sent in a message played at the ceremony:
“Only Kimi could have a bronze statue that moves and talks. It’s so Kimi — bold, understated, and unforgettable all at once.”
Even Ferrari paid homage via social media, stating:
“From Maranello to Espoo — we salute our champion. The legacy of Kimi lives on in titanium, in bronze, and in our hearts.”
This “living statue” isn’t just a still landmark. The city of Espoo has designed it as an interactive tourist experience — allowing visitors to press buttons to hear famous race moments, scan QR codes to view Räikkönen’s most iconic races, and walk through a mini-museum installed inside the pedestal of the statue.
With this monument, Espoo doesn’t just honor a hero. It tells the world that Kimi Räikkönen is not a relic of the past — he is a living legacy.

In a rare surprise video call during the event, Kimi himself had only this to say:
“It looks fine… Can I go now?”
Classic Kimi. And now, forever cast in bronze.
